I am interested in the intersection of softness and strength: the point at which delicacy and fragility meet a stubborn refusal to break. I believe there is beauty in subtlety. I believe there is value in both refined and raw expression. I believe compassion and curiosity are paramount to the work of an artist. I believe vulnerability requires great strength.
My work investigates the balance and dichotomies of these beliefs.
I have always found dance to be the ambassador between my interior being and my exterior facade, as well as the liaison between the various authentic and conflicting parts of my most true self. My aesthetic seeks to explore these dualities within myself, and throughout my environment. My movement is at times jagged, coarse, and abrasive; soft, nuanced, and small; argumentative, hostile, and punching; or open, vulnerable, and pleading. Through the power and subtlety of movement, I demonstrate a sincere yearning to reveal the summation of my parts.
Movement leads to discovery. Through improvisation, I become more fluent in the language of my body, and through collaboration, I become more diverse in my knowledge of the vast array of physical languages available. By accessing these many dialects of body-speaking, I strive to access as many facets of humanity as possible, while connecting the dots between all the partial prints that formulate the whole of “me” and my relationship to the world around me.
